Plant hunter great colour for practical coat.

I looked around for ages for a good warm, waterproof, longish coat; this is a brilliant coat and almost perfect. Love the 2 way zip, snug hood, length, deep pockets, very waterproof and wind proof but not as warm as I wanted, but fine for normal winter use. I was fine today in stormy winds! I just wear a warm jumper underneath for really cold conditions. I would also have appreciated those ribbed snug cuffs inside the end of the sleeve. However, I'm really chuffed with the green colour and pattern and love wearing it! It's quite roomy which also suits me.

Plant Hunter Coat

I bought this coat for a trip to the Arctic Circle and Greenland which we are doing this summer when it will be a balmy 10C there. I have worn it a couple of times here during recent chilly weather and it is lovely. Light but warm and a very good length. I havent tested the rainproof capabilities yet but it looks and feels as if they will be fine.

I m losing weight following surgery and probably could have gone down from 18 to 16 but I like to be able to layer underneath so hope it will be fine.

Very nice quality.

Perfect Coat

I bought this coat a year ago and everything about it is beyond perfect! I went for the navy colour which is a jeans-greyblue and matches everything. It's the perfect coat for my job as it's casual but smart. It's perfect for long walks with the dog on the beach in both summer and winter because you have room to layer up or just wear a t-shirt underneath and it's totally waterproof!! I've really put it to the test on our wet southwest Irish coast and it's never failed me. It's also draft proof, you can wear it without a scarf and the neck zips up and the toggles close the hood in enough to keep the wind and rain out. This is important for me as I walk fast and tend to be too hot to wear a scarf, but equally don't want an icy blast down my neck if it's cold. I'm pear-shaped with a much larger bottom and rather narrow top so I went for the size 10 which fits perfectly on top and is very flattering, but leaves plenty of room for my lower half. Also I climb in and out of a van frequently so the double zip is a godsend as I would probably end up ripping the coat if I had to try and remember to open it from the top. The sleves come down slightly below the wrist, which is ideal on a windy wet day when you've forgotten your gloves and don't want to put your hands in the pockets. I've had it for over a year now and it's still as perfect as the day I bought it. I recommend it highly!

Love my plant hunter cost but hate the zip

Only 3 stars because if the zip, I may return mine for a refund purely because the zip is so troublesome, I have to attemp the zip several times before I’m successful and have had to give up a couple of times and leave with my coat flapping open! Disappointing! 😥

Dear Dino,
Thanks for your review of the Plant Hunter Coat; sorry to hear you’re finding the 2 way zip troublesome. The thing about 2 way zips, is that they can be a little tricky to do up, however it’s all in the preparation!
With two way zips you need to ensure both of the sliders are right at the base of the zip (they will be on your left hand side as you wear it). They should sit together quite neatly, with no space in between the zip sliders. Ideally, the zip teeth above the sliders need to be as straight as possible (often this is tricky when you are putting on your own coat), but there is a knack, which with practice you will get.
Once you have slid the right side base of the zip tape into both sliders on the left side, and all is in-line, then you should be able to pull the top slider up the zip to fasten the coat. It may be helpful to hold the base of the zip with one hand, so they are stable, whilst you slide the top slider up – sometimes if the bottom slider moves slightly, then the tips are not perfectly married together, and the zip will not close, as the teeth are misaligned. If you then want to open the bottom slider (in order to split the coat at the base of the zip) then do this as a separate operation, after you’ve fastened the top slider.
I hope this help?
Best wishes, Seasalt.

Great product.

Very smart coat, perfect for keeping warm and dry. I look forward to wearing it once the unseasonal heatwave ends.

Lovely coat, shame about the zip

I love this coat, it is warm and practical, except for the zips. I don't understand why there are two or how they work. which is disappointing.
I still love the coat and I would not put anyone from buying it

Very good coat

I am already a devoted fan of the Seasalt raincoats - they have been my choice since I first encountered them in 2013. My beloved Janelle coat needed replacement after 3 years of heavy use during sunny, snowy, and of course rainy days over several years. I ordered online as I don't live in UK, and was happy with service and delivery. Compared to Janelle, Plant Hunter has a somewhat softer outside texture, which is nice. I bought one size larger (12) than my Janelle, as I wanted to make sure I could fit a warm jumper underneath on cold days (I live in Scandinavia) without looking like a stuffed turkey. I was a bit concerned since some customers wrote that it was on the larger side, but in my opinion it is true to size and comparable to other Seasalt items. I guess this is also a matter of preference, I am happy that it's a bit roomy and that the sleeves are long enough to cover my wrists while it still looks fairly elegant. The graphite color was even nicer than expected, a kind of dark blueish grey. I'm really happy with the coat, and so far I like it as much as my Janelle. Plant hunter is a good alternative if you think Janelle is too long.

Plant hunter coat

Delivery choices were excellent, was able to have it delivered to my local Intu shopping centre. Really like coat. Was unsure re sizes but it has turned out well. Sleeves are a little long have had to turn them back and I am 5ft 7 inches tall. Well made hood is excellent, not enormous like you find on many coats and the fleece lining is great. My only criticism is the difficulty I have fastening the zip at the bottom, I usually have to try 3 or 4 times to get it to fit in correctly so I can pull the zip up. I have noticed I am not the only person who has mentioned a problem with the zip. All in all a very good coat if a little expensive.

Exactly what I was looking for

I'm 5'5", 130 lbs, with somewhat broader shoulders. I ordered the size 8. While I would have preferred it to be a little larger in the shoulders/arm width, the fit is otherwise perfect. I wore the coat in the rain and wind and it gave me proper protection. I've yet to find a hood that properly shields the hair above my forehead from the rain but the hood is cozy and stays put. As others have mentioned the chin guard could use some material to prevent chafing but it's a small price to pay for a lovely, warm and comfortable lined raincoat.
I live in the US and the shipping of the coat was impressively FAST.

Much More Than Just a Raincoat!

I've been after a proper waterproof longer coat for ages which suits various weathers, especially slightly less freezing but very wet & windy ones. I got the teal coloured one with a pattern & love it - it looks great, feels cosy & it slots perfectly into my wardrobe. Love it.
