Great in a size 26

Just because you are fat does not mean you don't want quality clothes. This is the best coat in my size that I have ever had. Lovely coat, great fit and makes me feel smart when wearing and It really is waterproof. I live in lancashire and we get plenty of rain to test it out! Five stars, brilliant coat.

Don't buy a Bowsprit jacket at any price!

Having bought a bowsprit jacket last year I felt it was time for a wash as the light blue colour was slightly grubby. Having washed the coat as per the instructions on the label I have to say that it looks like an old rag. The creasing is such that it is unwearable as it looks as if I have slept in it since I bought it. Customer Services were most unhelpful saying 'Tough the coat still functions so get on with it'. I'm surprised that a company like Seasalt should adopt this attitude.

Simple, stylish and practical

Third time lucky for me, I tried the Seafolly Short and the Reversible raincoat, both were nice but not quite what I was looking for. I saw this coat in my local John Lewis and tried it on and was so glad I did! I looks much better on that it does on the hanger, it has a simple design/cut which is flattering and unfussy. It feels warm yet wonderfully light to wear. I'm a size 14 in seasalt clothes, but got a 12 in this which I felt fitted better. However if you like to wear many layers I would stick to your true size.

Lovely raincoat

I absolutely love this raincoat. I bought one in green a couple of years ago before you introduced larger sizes and was delighted when I could order my true size of 22 and have a bit more room for a cardigan. The red is a beautiful shade and I am so happy with it. Not just for the rain, I love wearing it.

Love the coat, now waiting for the rain to test it!

The coat is stylish, comfortable and roomy enough to fit my fleece underneath, so far, perfect. It hasn't been tested in adverse conditions yet because of the extraordinarily good weather.

Lovely jacket, not keen on change in design

I had owned a previous incarnation of the Bowsprit a few years ago and loved wearing it so much that when it came to looking for a replacement I headed straight to SS to buy another. The cut is flattering for my shape and I loved the selection bright and cheery colours from seasons past until last year Seasalt decided to change the cuffs on the jacket. Previous versions were a press stud and tab cuff which was brilliant, no faffing when taking my hands in and out of the pockets. Whereas this new style has the most impractical extra bit of fabric cuff which in my opinion ruins the jacket. I found it incredibly impractical when taking my hands out of the pockets as the cuff would unfold on itself with an unsightly looking flap of fabric and I was constantly having to adjust it. I tried folding the cuffs a different way to tuck it in but looked even more silly. I think I may understand the logic behind it that its there for those with longer arms but I have long arms and would never unfold the 'flap' even when unfolded, I am sorry to say it but it looks naff in my opinion.Sadly I ended up returning the coat for this reason.

Please SS bring back the old tab cuffs.

Not for long walks in the rain

This is a great coat for light rain. If you plan to walk in moderate rain for more than 20 mins then I would consider buying a different coat. My coat soaked through and it took ages to dry. Very disappointed as this coat was to replace a very good waterproof jacket, I am going to buy the wash recommended to keep it waterproof to see if this helps. Otherwise it will be back to purchasing Helly Hansen jackets.

It would be great if you could put waterproof ratings on the descriptions eg waterproof to <5000mm.

Nice jacket but not sure how waterproof

I’m reviewing the bowsprit jacket I bought last year as it wasn’t worn in heavy rain until last week. It’s a stylish jacket in a lovely bright colour. I had worn it quite a few times in non rainy weather until last week when I spent a relatively short time wearing it in heavy rain. I think the waterproof backing on the tin cloth stopped the rain seeping through but it definitely didn’t bead up and roll off. The jacket ended up very soggy on the surface and took hours to dry out properly. Therefore I will just wear it as a jacket. I’ve just bought the porthchapel coat which I’m hoping will be more useful as a waterproof.

Not waterproof

So disappointed with this coat. I ordered one and the first time I took it out in the rain, the seams leaked. I contacted seasalt who said I needed to send it back for "tests". They then contacted me to say yes, the seams leaked, and if I wanted one, I'd have to purchase another one as they don't do automatic replacements. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I ordered a new one and took it out in the rain this morning. I was outside for no more than 2 minutes, and once again, my clothes are wet around the neck and shoulders. I don't have time to be faffing around with printing returns labels and post office queues again. Save yourself some time and money, and choose another coat - this one may look pretty but it does not do the job it's made for.
