Fully waterproof, windproof and breathable

Made from our new ripstop cotton TIN CLOTH® our Square Sail Coat is ready to take on the elements! Traditionally used for yacht sails and spinnakers, the fabric is woven using a special technique that makes it more resistant to ripping or tearing, and gives it a distinctive cross-hatch texture. We've added our special hi-tech waterproofing treatment. It has an adjustable peaked hood and a zip with a snap fastening flap to keep the rain out. The upper body and hood are lined in soft 100% cotton jersey with yarn-dyed stripes, while the lower body and sleeves are lined with polyester so it's easy to slip on and off. Roll back the cuffs to reveal a flash of stripes. It's finished with a curved, slightly stepped hem and two concealed in-seam front pockets. Styled to be deliberately roomy, it's easy to layer a knit underneath for cooler days. Perfect for everything from city strolls to blustery walks. Part of the Seasalt RAIN® collection - find out more.

Square sail coat

I would say that I am a size 14 but I have bought this coat in a size 10 and it fits perfectly. I am 5 ft 3 and I would say that the sleeves are just the right length. I think that it will be a perfect weight coat for Spring.
It is always worth trying on Seasalt coats because the sizing and fit can be a bit random.

Sadly disappointed

I was so looking forward to the square sail coat and am really sad to say that I’m dissapointed and will be returning them.. It looked so good on the photo that I’d ordered two, one for myself and another for my sister.
The coats are khaki not the grey green shown, the sleeves can’t be rolled back to show the striped lining as they’d be too short. The neckline is too wide and the overall look is not at all stylish.
I was also very surprised to find that they were manufactured in China?

Good buy

Bought this in the sale and am pleased with it it is roomy enough to put a thick sweater under as well as handy to just chuck on over a t shirt.
The only thing that spoiled it for me was the zip the jackets well made in strong fabric but when you are in and out of a car a two way zip is far more user friendly.
If I was paying the full price I might have thought twice about keeping it and I would have been quite miffed by the cheap zip....but that’s just my niggle. All in all a useful jacket

Nice Coat! Shame About ...

Really like this coat with its relaxed fit. Just returned from Western Isles where it has served me well BUT because of the cotton striped lining in the top half and the lighter weight at the bottom it is inclined to pull up and requires a tug on the lining or the back of the cat ‘bunches Up’ slightly ... has anyone else experienced this? I am thinking of sewing weights ( something like large buttons) to the lining to compensate. It is a great coat ...

Good for us short people

I have this in red and alpine. The latter is more of a khaki olive shade but I was expecting it to be a shade of brown which I would've preferred. The sleeves are a bit short but fine for me even .with the cuff turned up to display the stripes. Great length for us shorter ladies. A good size hood too. Another good quality purchase. I fit comfortably into a size 20 whereas I am a 24 in a Sea Folly and a 22 in other coats so this one is a very generous size. My advice would be to go down a size.

Love it

Love this coat.
I wear a size 18 , the fit is really nice but the arm length is too short. It fits but an extra inch would be perfect. It’s waterproof (tested!) and agreable to wear (wonderfully light in weight).

Not perfect

I'm normally a size 20 in seasalt coats but I sized down to an 18 in this jacket as the measurements seemed large. Everything seems fine - I've worn it on rainy days and I love the colour. However, the sleeves are too short and so is the hood. I have to use an umbrella with this jacket which is disappointing otherwise, my hair and face get wet. I don't have this problem with my other 3 seasalt rain jackets. I'm a bit disappointed in this one.

Good useful raincoat for Spring / Summer / Autumn

I bought this coat as a non-Winter dog-walking coat but I think that it is quite smart enough to take on holiday to Spain with, and nice and light and packable. Very please with it. Perhaps a centimetre more on the sleeve length??

Love it

Love the colour, the shape and the fact that I can werar it over a tshirt or a sweater. Since it arrived It has not rained here, but I am off to Wales this weekend for a walking holiday with friends and I am sure it will be tested there! I have been looking for waterproof cotton as all synthetic materials make me too hot, so I am truly delighted to have found Seasalt.

Great lightweight “in-between” raincoat

I was really pleased to receive my Square Sail Coat in tomato. It is a great fit, and looks really striking. The peaked hood is practical in the rain. It is lightweight and ideal for in-between spring or autumn weather. Room underneath for a sweater.
As other reviewers have noted, the sleeves are a touch on the short side - I am not especially long-armed, and they only just work for me. If I were to wear them turned up as shown in the photos, they would be halfway up my arm, Miami Vice / Don Johnson 80s style!
The pockets (three = good) could also be improved with a design tweak: (i) the two large front pockets extend to the side seams which takes them a long way round.... meaning that my rummaging for a tissue is a bit of a spectacle for onlookers; and (ii) the useful inside pocket is very low toward the hem - again, makes you look very peculiar when trying to get anything in or out. It would be great if the lovely pockets were placed a bit more reachably. But all-in-all, a lovely addition to the wardrobe.
