50% Cornish Clay from St Agnes 50% Ball Clay from Devon

Glazed clay mug. Designed and made in Cornwall by the world famous Leach Pottery.

Our pots and mugs are made using locally sourced clay from St.Agnes in Cornwall, hand thrown in the Leach workshop and finished with dolomite glaze, which was used at Leach during the 1950's. The beautiful colour of the pots is created by the presence of small traces of iron in the clay.

This type of pottery is known as stoneware: it is hardwearing and if treated with care should last a lifetime.

Our exclusive 'Leach for Seasalt' collection celebrates our joint love for simple, beautiful style and true craftsmanship.

Please note, this product is handmade so sizes may vary slightly.

Love the mug, but mug glaze not as expected

I actually put the brushed glazed leach mug on my Christmas list, but I am a bit disappointed that it's nothing like the picture here on the website. I loved the white rim and white on the inside of the mug, however, the one i received as a gift is just greeny brown all over with a white slash across the middle. Practically, its lovely, but I think you should change the picture or actually give the white rimmed mug a different name, otherwise you will continually disappoint people as it's a lot of money to spend on an item for it to be so very different.

Dear Katie,

Thanks for your review of the Leach Mug, we're sorry to hear that the colouring is not quite what you expected by looking on our website.

Our Leach mugs are all hand-made by Leach in St Ives. Therefore, they're all unique so although the same colours are used. They will also vary in colouring and pattern slightly.

Best wishes,
Seasalt

Definitely a problem with the glaze crazing

Like several other reviewers, I must unfortunately report that despite very careful handling (no dishwasher or microwave; no dropping) the glaze on these has crackled. Too bad, because they could be terrific. What a sad state of things, when Leach produces poor quality goods, sold dearly.

Leach Mugs

I bought a pair of these online to be sent as a gift directly to friends, having seen them in the local shop and thought them extremely covetable. The look, feel and weight of them is a pleasure.

The friends were delighted and put them into use straight away.

However, I have since taken note of another reviewers comment on the glaze crackling so quickly. I will pass this on to my friends.

Gorgeous but...

I bought 2 of these mugs, after I couldn't take it any more in the sale. I had wanted to try them for ages. The full glaze looks exactly as pictured, the other mug doesn't have a white lip, but is mainly a wood nymph greeny/brown colour except for the brushed glaze part. It is still lovely, and both are gorgeous to look at, especially with their bumpy even exterior. I have only used the full glaze so far, and the handle is perfect to hold, secure and nicely sized. It makes me want to drink.
Capacity wise it's around 400ml or more, so perfect for those who bought the older seasalt coffee cups but thought they were too small. Try this for size.

BUT, after less than a week of use, the base on the inside is crazed all over - it has been looked after like a precious heirloom, handwashed with care, no dishwasher and certainly no microwave. So why? Is this normal for these mugs? Does it mean the base will crack? :( And I SO love it...

Perfect pottery!

This mug is stunning, but don't you just love all things St Ives!! Also love the idea of the Seasalt Bursary scheme, so important to preserve Cornish cultural heritage.

Disappointing

Looked at these online for months then ordered two, one with brushed glaze and one plain white. The brushed glaze pattern wasn't at all how it looks in the photo online and was unattractive. The plain white one wasn't as good in real life either. Returned them both and got a refund.

Dear Jo,
Thank you for reviewing the Leach mugs. Each mug is handmade and hand glazed so they’re all a little different. If you’d like to choose your own, many of our stores stock them so if there’s a Seasalt store near to you, do pop in.
Best wishes,
Seasalt

Disappointed twice

I ordered two mugs of differing finish. The plain mug was perfect, however the brushed glaze mug arrived with crazed glaze and an unsightly brown blob on the outside. Sent pictures and SEASALT agreed to send a replacement. I've just opened the parcel and again the mug is crazed all over. Am very disappointed as these mugs are a gift. Will return asking for replacement in a different finish.
