I love love love these and have them in several colors. I adore the stripes and fit and the material, which is very high quality.

Breton shirt

I have a colour, that at present, I can no longer see. A wine stripe+white. Looks great underneath the little half-sleeve cardigan +similar coloured leggings, though. And I did buy 2 at the time, but the one mentioned above is defiantly my favourite one, the sleeves are a tad long on me, otherwise I'd have given it a 5!!

Nice sailor top

Nice fabric, good quality product. I gave 4 stars because I have a long back and would prefer if the top was a bit longer.

Much thinner than they used to be?

I have bought many of these sailor shirts over the years and was so pleased to be given one in the lead colourway for Christmas. However, the fabric is much thinner than any of my other sailor shirts - it's just a regular thin t-shirt material rather than the thicker, sturdier fabric of my other tops. I see these tops are now made in Sri Lanka rather than Turkey and wonder if the change in production means a different thinner fabric is now used. This thinner fabric does not wash so well and needs ironing, unlike the sailor shirts of old. Disappointing, and I wonder if any other people have commented on the change of fabric used.

Dear GH,
Thanks for your review; our Sailor Shirt has always been 185gsm single jersey. We do allow a small tolerance on this weight (as it’s not very ethical to throw large amounts of cotton away for being slightly over or under weight).
In our experience, we have noted that dye colours can influence the weight and hand feel of the fabric as well as washing and surface texture.
Older garments may feel thicker over time as the fibres fluff up making it feel fuller, dark colours are often heavier ( within our tolerance).
We do carry out strict quality control but sometimes you can find that one batch may be slightly under weight, while another is slightly over and then if you compared the two, you would notice a slightly different feel. We wouldn’t fail the goods for this, but would strive to improve in the next delivery.
If you’d like to discuss further please call our friendly customer service team on 01326 640075 or pop onto Live Chat on our website at
Best wishes, Seasalt.

I have 7 of these long sleeved sailor shirts ! They are my go too with skirts, jeans, leggings and under tunics and cardigans . They wash exceedingly well on a 30 or 40 degree wash and some I have had a few years and still look fab dressed up or casual .

Very comfy but not brilliant for small people!

I love the colours, the fabric and the shape but the proportions are too big for me - the sleeves are too long and it isn't fitted across the top as the shoulders are quite far apart. I'm 5'2" and a 12/14 - I bought a 12, wondering if I should have bought a 10 but that may have been too tight and unflattering.

Any chance you could make a petite version?!

Sailor stripe tops

I LOVE my sailor tops. I now have four! The cloth is so soft, it washes well and the neck line is so flattering. My clothing of choice for this New Zealand Summer. A superb garment.
