A little bit of heaven

Beautiful soft merino wool. Just what I have wanted. Delivery abroad with no problems. Lovely company to deal with. Would highly recommend the cardigan and the company.

Your Choice -washing instructions

I am in the process of purchasing my 3rd cardigan as they are so useful. This is despite the bobbling (I have bought a gadget a bit like a shaver which works well , (£10)), and the very clear advice from Sea Salt that they should be hand washed only to avoid shrinkage.

I spent a lot of time looking up on the net, 'washing wool in a washing machine' and took the plunge as my life-style doesn't allow washing by hand - for a start you must have a bowl/basin large enough! Also I don't have a bath but walk-in shower! My research showed me that it is not being in water which causes the shrinkage, but the way the fibres rub together while in the washing machine. To counteract this all the various instructions say use a pillowcase to hold the item; use an appropriate wool washing liquid (least 3 at Waitrose ; and use the 'wool wash' programme on the washing machine, making sure it is no higher than 30 degrees. One piece of advice went further - and it makes sense: put one or 2 other things in the machine to help protect the pillow/jersey from excessive movement. I use 2 hand towels. Once the wool wash programme is over, remove the jumper straight away, and lay it out flat a surface. I use my ironing board. It dries surprisingly quickly, then if you wash by hand you have to wrap the wool up in a towel and squeeze the excess water - all depends how strong your wrists are.

Take any dosing ball out of the machine before you set the machine to spin and tumble dry the towels.

It is obviously your own choice what you do, The 2 inch tape has to say the very clear advice 'Don't wash in a washing machine,' to avoid all risk, but I will continue to use the above method, and feel able to buy other Sea Salt woollen items- they are lovely colours and so useful to have in the wardrobe. Also you can bend over without fear of exposing your backside!! Generally flattering. and colours can match or contrast with other layers.

Warm Cardi in a Warm Colour

I'm very pleased with this although I've only worn it a few times as I am 'saving' it to wear over Christmas. The colour is bright without being overwhelming; the sleeves are long enough and it is cosy. My only regret is that I had to return the Kestrel Dress which I had matched up with the cardigan. I liked the cardi but would have liked to have the dress too.

Love merino

I'm a big fan of merino wool which is usually warm but lightweight, and soft rather than scratchy. Unfortunately this contains 20% nylon, which I think is what makes it a little scratchy, and is unnecessary - I would prefer to pay higher prices for quality 100% merino or merino and cashmere mixes. As is, I feel this product is overpriced and I know from previous Seasalt merino jumpers they do bobble. Please Seasalt continue using merino, but don't mix with nylon. As for the style, it is oversized and a longer length, but good for layering in winter and will last for years. I'm keeping it but not 100% happy considering the price.

Beautiful CArdigan

A gift from my daughter for my birthday as she knows I am a "Seasalt" fan. A lovely, warm cardigan but it does pill (bobbling), but a quick shave with a good quality lint remover and it's fine. I have a lot of cashmere knitwear and have to do the same with them. Overall a great item to have in your wardrobe.

I'm buying a second

This is a really practical item in my wardrobe as I live in trousers and leggings, and the cardigan provides a flattering length. I hadn't realised how many tops I could wear with the original colour. It also goes well under rainwear. As a guide, it's finger-tip length, so longer than most cardigans. Comes up very large, so purchased size smaller than usual.
However, I found it essential to buy one of the gadgets to remove the bobbles, and this with batteries, cost an extra £10. That said, it is returned to it's original glory, and I found other woollen tops which have benefitted. (The gadget looks a bit like an electric shaver, and I emptied 3 times. - the SS's comments talk about picking off the bobbles - as far as I'm concerned, 'No way!'. )

High maintenance

I was really pleased with this cardigan but it has to be hand washed which is quite an undertaking as it is quite a bulky garment. I would have it dry cleaned but it cannot be dry cleaned. I was planning to buy another one but I won’t now do so because taking care of it is quite difficult, especially during the Winter. Shame.

Disappointed

After reading the glowing reviews I was very excited about getting this cardigan. When it arrived the colour was bolder than anticipated but I was ok with that, it also didn’t feel as heavy as expected. After previous reviewers said it was coming up large I ordered a 10 instead of 12 - I also based this decision on the sleeve length as I am tall (6ft) and sleeves in 10 were longer. The sleeves are wide and short considering the length of the body is good for me it’s such an odd fit but I’ve kept it begrudgingly as I haven’t found a blue cardigan elsewhere that I like. After one wear I’ve already got some bobbling under the arms I hope it doesn’t ruin the cardi. It’s also not as warm as I had hoped and we’ve not even got the colder weather yet. It’s quite expensive at just under £90 if it doesn’t wash/wear well it will be a bad investment indeed.
