Three Beautiful Coastal Cornish Walks

We constantly draw inspiration from our surroundings here in Cornwall, and the natural world has the power to influence more than our palettes and prints. Exploring the woods and open fields or wandering a quiet stretch of coastline is the perfect way to enjoy some of Cornwall’s most picturesque places.

We’ve been thinking about some of our own favourite rambles along to the South West Coast Path, and picked three circular routes that are around the 10k mark.

With rock stacks, skylarks and spectacular scenery for company, this breathtaking walk begins with a view of a mythical giant’s stepping stones that rise like craggy islands from the sea at Bedruthan.

Sweeping along the coast path, if you’re walking at low tide, you’ll catch the rock pools in the cove at Porth Mear, the clear turquoise waters of the Trescore Island lagoon, and stretches of golden sand at Porthcothan.

Following in the footsteps of Cornwall’s patron saint, St Piran, (as well as the cast and crew of Poldark) this long circular walk along the rugged west coast offers dramatic clifftop panoramas and the chance to take in ancient holy sites, butterflies, wildflowers and Penhale Sands – the tallest dunes in Britain. These towering sandhills make a pleasant pitstop for a picnic and, tucked behind them, you’ll find the medieval ruins of St Piran’s Oratory.

Leaving from Porthleven Harbour and heading north along the cliffs, this walk is an opportunity to experience some of Cornwall’s wildest beauty. As well as weaving along the coastline near Breage and Porth Sulinces, the route is punctuated with iconic monuments to Cornwall’s rich mining heritage.

The path you follow will take you past the stone engine houses at Wheal Trewavas and Wheal Prosper with their chimney stacks perched majestically like sentries over the crashing sea. Don’t forget to factor in some time for all the photos you’ll want to take!
