We caught up with Michelle Campbell on all things style, make-up and wellbeing as we shot our press lookbook photography
Every season we create a specially styled lookbook to showcase some of our most exciting designs to the nation’s press. We were so excited to have Michelle Campbell as our make-up artist for our Spring/ Summer shoot. Michelle has a background in more than one creative industry, so we were eager to get to know her more. Here, with a sneak peak of next year’s collection, she talks us through…
What’s your favourite thing about Cornwall?
My husband proposed to me in Polperro so for me it’s a very romantic place!
Did you have any favourite pieces from the shoot?
The stripy knitwear was great and all of the shoes were amazing, I particularly liked the Conwenna Boots.
What are your favourite colours to wear?
Black and red, although I’m exploring with neon at the moment!
What do you wear to make yourself feel confident?
It has to be a good foundation. I really like NARS.
How did you get into the hair and makeup industry?
After 10 years of working in the music industry (at various record companies) I decided I needed a creative change and I was lucky that I was able to get an assisting job with Val Garland (currently L’Oréal Paris Global Makeup Director and British Vogue Contributing Beauty Editor).
Any top tips on how to achieve success?
Never be late, have good manners and look the (professional) part.
How do you express your creativity through your work?
I get to express creativity mostly through editorials with magazines where I am able to create the brief.
Do you have any career highlights or exciting people you’ve worked with?
Yes! My career highlight has been meeting and working with Whitney Houston and also going to work at 10 Downing Street in the private residence.
Who inspires you and why?
My daughter: she encourages me to push myself out of my comfort zone.
Any great make-up tips for those of us who want to achieve a natural look?
Always think of using a tinted moisturiser as opposed to a heavy foundation and consider using products like mineral powders because they build on a true skin colour.
2020 has been a challenging year for many. What do you do to relax or switch off?
I have really got into Pilates, it’s my new thing!
Your best tip for mental wellbeing?
Don’t feel guilty about resting
