The Inspiration Behind This Month’s Prints: Wilhelmina Barns-Graham
This autumn, our designer’s scrapbooks were filled with the paintings and sketches of celebrated local artists. For this month’s new collection, it was the work of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham that captured our imaginations. Sophie and the team have explored the artist’s style, with delicately drawn botanicals and tumbling abstract shapes to create some of our best prints yet!
Woodblock Leaf
Inspired by the beautiful linear drawings of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Kathryn created this pretty botanical design. Fine lines add texture to the leaves and berries.
Tumbling Blocks
Inspired by the abstract works of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Kathryn hand printed square shapes in her sketchbook, creating these tumbling blocks in beautiful colours.
Drawn Camellia
Kathryn’s delicate illustrations of overlapping camellias were hand drawn outdoors in Cornish gardens. We love the fresh, vibrant feel of this print.
Pattern Leaf
The beautiful hues of autumn leaves are one of the delights of the season. Kathryn’s collections of dried autumn leaves and delicate, intricate leaf skeletons inspired this hand drawn, patterned leaf design.
Atlantic Waves & Atlantic Boats
Drawing inspiration from Wilhelmina Barns-Graham’s fine line drawings from the mid-1960s, our Atlantic Waves print captures the elemental energy of the sea. You’ll spot little boats riding the waves on our Atlantic Boat print.
Heart Stem
The silhouettes of delicate floral stems were the starting point for this beautiful design, created by Sophie Chadwick. If you look closely, you can see they look like tiny strings of hearts, fluttering in the breeze.
