One of our Olympic Rowers, Helen Glover, recently took part in the Lucerne World Cup and as a prelude to the Olympic Games it couldn’t have gone better!
She sent us a little update about the event, training and looking forward to the big London games this summer…
“I have had a busy 4 weeks. Heather Stanning and I raced our pair at the Belgrade World Cup and then 2 weeks later at the Lucerne World Cup. I am very excited to say that the weekends went very well and we came away with Gold medals from both events.
In the Lucerne final we met the two times world champions New Zealand. It was always going to be a hotly anticipated race and after a strong start we rowed confidently down the course to win gold with USA in second and New Zealand in third. Now we have 2 weeks until the final world cup in Munich. Between now and then is a very important date which we rowers look forward to with equal measures of anticipation and excitement- Olympic Selection. On June the 6th the GB rowing team will announce the individuals that will make up the team for the 2012 London Olympics. And then the countdown really begins!”
Well done Helen and good luck with the Olympic team selections!
