Sea, Salts & Sail Festival

We love any excuse to celebrate Cornwall’s fantastic nautical heritage and the granite-walled Cornish harbour in Mousehole sets the scene for the Sea Salts & Sail Festival (SS&S). The unique bi-annual event is aimed at preserving the tiny fishing village’s Cornish maritime history, whilst raising money for local charities.

SS&S will see scores of beautiful and historic wooden boats assemble in and around the harbour, whilst traditional shanty signing and storytelling fills the air. There will be stalls set up on the quay, selling crafts and local produce, all helping to recreate the sights and sounds of what was once a vibrant fishing port.

Traditional vessels will be coming from as far afield as Brittany, Ireland and South Africa, plus many favourites from around the bay. Each will be rigged with spars and tan sails, before setting out for an impressive parade of sail with spectacular views of Mount’s Bay and St Michaels Mount (don’t forget the camera!).

Now in its twentieth year, the festival is organised by a group of dedicated residents, many of whom crew the classics boats in attendance, or have been involved in the maritime industry, it’s a real community affair.

Mousehole is only three miles away from our flagship shop in Penzance so we’ll definitely be heading over to join in the festivities; we hope to see you there!
