Why do we support the Fishermen’s Mission?
It’s the only charity working around the entire UK coastline that provides 24 hour emergency support as well as crucial practical, financial, spiritual and emotional care to fishermen and their families. There’s no escaping the sea when you’re in Cornwall – happily it’s around almost every corner – and at the heart of Cornwall’s culture and traditional industry are our fishing communities. Cornwall and its seas are beautiful and calm for lots of the year, but come the bad weather they can be perilous. In fact, fishing is known as the most dangerous livelihood in the UK. We first started supporting the Fishermen’s Mission in 2012, and we’re proud to have raised over £20,000 for them so far.
A few of our most recent fundraising efforts include…
MIDNIGHT MADNESS 2016
Zoe, Kitty and Laura donned their Seasalt Sailor Shirts and took part in the 10 mile night walk across Dartmoor. The conditions were far from perfect, but despite the fog, mist and rain, (and an escaped lynx!) the team completed the torch lit walk in 3 hours and 35 minutes. It was tough in places, but the team loved the challenge and were rewarded with hot tea and a pasty at the end – just what they needed!
SEASALT SAMPLE SALE
Our Penryn Sale Shop held a special sample sale open to friends and family of the teams at the design studios and our nearest Cornish shops. They were invited to fill a bag with as many samples as they could for £10, with all proceeds going straight to the Fishermen’s Mission.
CHARITY JUTE BAGS
This year we also launched our second collection of limited edition charity Jute Bags. They were designed by our celebrity friends, Julia Bradbury, Barbara Hulanicki, Caroline Quentin, Fern Britton and Eleanor Tomlinson. We’ve still got a few left, so treat yourself to a new jute and support the Fishermen’s Mission at the same time.
We’re so proud to be able to support The Fishermen’s Mission and all the work they do. Our third collection of charity Jute Bags are out next spring, keep an eye out!
