We can’t believe it’s been a whole week since the beginning of the Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival already!
We’re suffering from severe shanty singing withdrawal, so much so that we’ve been signing at the tops of our voices and dancing our way around the Design Studios to try and re-create the atmosphere of the weekend.
Despite a touch of drizzle and mizzle, this year’s festival attracted the biggest crowds yet with an estimated 40,000 visitors descending on Falmouth. Incredibly there were 300 hours of live music, provided by over 60 groups from across the world, some hailing from as far as Norway & Holland and France.
We had some fantastic shanty groups perform in front of our special Shanty Festival window at our Falmouth shop over the weekend. The streets were filled with songs of the sea!
Other highlights of the weekend included a sell-out Falmouth Packet Gala Concert and Falmouth Classics yacht racing.
What a fantastic weekend of shanty singing, sailing and raising funds for the RNLI. We’re looking forward to 2017 already (16th – 18th June)!
