Just like the photo

I've only just received this backpack in the lovely rich Jam colour so I have not used it yet.. It's going to be really useful as it's large enough to take books ,water bottle etc and was in the sale so very pleased. As other reviewers have said, it would benefit from having a big zipped internal compartment for phones and cards etc to save rummaging around and also for security. I have given 4 stars instead of 5 because of the lack of secure compartments . I was also somewhat perturbed to read the instructions state that the colour may transfer onto paler colours. As the bag is not waterproof that could be an issue. It also says the bag can be washed but there appears to be a bit of card at the bottom of the bag between the lining and fabric. Surely the bag can't be washed then? Also the straps are very very long which results in the excess dangling. But I still love it.
Please Seasalt could we have a slightly smaller waterproof version, with internal secure pockets?

unfortunately not

This looked like the perfect little bag, but unfortunately not. The straps are too wide for the clasps and need pliers to adjust. Once adjusted, and on your back, the clasps dig uncomfortably in your back. I would have kept it if it had an additional strap to turn it into a shoulder-bag, but as a small back pack it doesn't work. Going back :0(

Useful and stylish travel bag

Although a little wary because of some of the other reviews decided to order the bag when it came on offer in the sale. I really like the retro knapsack style and it is comfortable to carry. The Jam colour is rich and the fabric is similar to my Seasalt hold-all bag of last season which I love.
Having given up buying leather bags great to find an alternative.

This is most definitely more a handbag than a rucksack and I wouldn't use it when I am out working on the nature reserve.. That said it is perfect for those 'big bag'days when you need to carry a lot of things. Comfortably takes bulky items like sun hat, or roll up waterproof etc. The inside pocket is a little too shallow and a key fob would have been a good idea hence 4 stars.

Sure it will get plenty of use.

Lovely soft cotton backpack but ...

I love the colours and that it’s cotton and whilst I agree it’s lacking in internal pockets, I find it a perfect size for commuting or days out. However after only a few weeks’ use, one of the poppers has broken, rendering the bag useless, as you need to have the poppers done up to fold over the top properly.

Comments:

Dear Donut007,
Thank you for your review of the Bookshelf Backpack. This certainly doesn’t sound up to our usual high standard. One of our Customer Service Team will be in touch with you very shortly.
Best wishes, Seasalt.

Great

I'd been eyeing this up for a while and decided to purchase before going on holiday to the Lakes. It was great for keeping my hands free while still looking stylish and I love the peacock colour which is very easy to wear. My only complaint is the lack of compartments. There is a small internal pocket however there is no zip and it gapes, so often items would fall out of the pocket into the rest of the bag which made finding small items like lipbalm or my phone difficult.

Nightmare!

This bag is my very worst nightmare of a bag! Its 'foldover' top means that you're rummaging around in a very deep space to find things, but when you want to close the bag anything in the top third gets caught in the foldover - laptop, papers etc - and the front straps aren't adjustable. There's a small internal pocket for keys or a phone or a purse or glasses, but only enough room for one of there, the rest are left loose in the bottom. The fabric at the bottom had begun to rub and go wobbly after 2 days pretty minimal use so goodness knows what it will look like with a bit of wear - the fabrics a lovely colour but picks up fluff like crazy. The foldover top has poppers to make it slightly narrower to fold over - but it still folds uncomfortably and looks a mess. Oh - and don't buy online unless you're absolutely certain you want to keep the bag because once the paper wrapping is off the straps, you won't be able to return it.

Perfect bag

I love this bag? I’ve used it a couple of times and there is plenty of room in it. My daughter has now borrowed it for college.

Excellent Bag

Brilliant bag, exactly the right size for normal daily use (and fits my laptop in too).

Versatile

As with virtually everything Seasalt, a really lovely item. It’s practical, roomy & secure. Best of all, it reminds me of the bag I used to take to Uni in the ‘70s!
