Two of our garment designers headed down to Newlyn School of Art last week to take part on a printing course.

Located just a stones throw from where the Forbes School of Painting was run by Stanhope Forbes, the ‘father’ of the Newlyn School of Painters, the school offers a wide range of courses ranging from printing to drawing and pottery. And as we’re only just up the road and have rather a penchant for a good print, Zephyrine and Sara thought they’d go and investigate.

As part of our count down to Christmas we’ve decided to give the festivities a Cornish spin, with a few little tips, some tall stories and a dash of local legend to warm you up for the big day… This is Day 12…

We have a brilliant team of window designers who spend the entire year dreaming up fantastical plans for our window displays. And Christmas has to be the pinnacle in their window dressing year. It’s a full blown opportunity to deck the sills with all manner of festive treats and give shoppers a sparklin’ display in the build up to the big day.

The longest night of the year takes place on the 21st December, winter solstice. And after that the days start getting longer again. In Cornwall we call it Montol Eve and the Penzance festivities are unrivalled.

Every Christmas on the south coast of Cornwall, the tiny village of Mousehole is transformed in a blaze of Christmas lights. It’s not always been such a huge affair; in 1963 resident artist Joan Gilchrest thought it would be nice to string some Christmas lights around the harbour. It caught the imagination of some local carpenters and the Mousehole lights were born.
