The 24th World Pilot Gig Championships will take place on the Isles of Scilly this weekend, racing the finest crews against each other in a heated battle – all very exciting stuff!
We’re starting to get more than a bit excited about the imminent World Pilot Gig Championships. Every year hundreds of people train for months in prep for the event and head out to the Isles of Scilly on the May bank holiday to compete in one of the biggest gig gatherings in the world. And lots of people here at Seasalt either go along to take part or as spectators! We caught up with a few competitors this year to find out a little bit more…

After almost a year waiting for clear, calm conditions, Helford River Gig Club have picked their day and are currently (as we speak) rowing all the way from Helford River to the Scillies! That’s a full 65 miles, in what is increasingly turning into a rather wet day. All in the name of charity.
