Our bake off in aid of the Fisherman’s Mission has gone swimmingly! A veritable cakey shoal of fishy themed cakes all in the name of charity – and a jolly good excuse to chow down on sponge over a cup of tea.
Fish Friday (today) is a day of fundraising held across the UK to raise money for the Fishermen’s Mission – a fantastic charity that provides emergency aid for fishing communities and families right around our coastline. And to support the cause we thought… we’d bake cakes. Any excuse!
Entries were amazing, with everything from little fairy cakes, huge chocolate sponges, key (seaweed) lime pie, a cocoa krispy fishy, and even a blue whale. To raise some funds everyone from Seasalt HQ paid to either submit their entry or to just turn up and eat.
Nick Hodges the head chef from the Flying Fish Restaurant at St. Michaels Hotel took a break from his busy schedule in the kitchen to judge our efforts and generously offer some prizes to our star bakers. First prize went to Rosie from Marketing, with her amazing brownie and coconut sponge sushi platter – she won a meal for two with wine at the Flying Fish.
And joint second prize went to Tiff from Garment Tech, for her brightly coloured fishy fairy cakes, and Helen from Marketing, who made a choccy sponge blue whale. They’ll be sharing out the runner up prizes of a day with the pastry chef at Flying Fish and £50 worth of vouchers from Fish For Thought, a family run Cornish seafood company.
