If you happen to use search engine Google today, as I’m sure many of you will, be sure to pause for a moment to admire the Google logo design. Today’s Google logo happens to be a celebration of the 240th birthday of the Cornish inventor and mining engineer, Richard Trevithick (13 April 1771 – 22 April 1833)!
Trevithick’s most famous invention was the high pressure steam engine and he also built the first full-scale working railway steam locomotive.
Richard Trevithick was born at Tregajorran between Redruth and Camborne in 1771 and went on to lead a very interesting life indeed. You can see a memorial statue of Trevithick holding one of his small scale models next to the public library in Camborne in Cornwall.
