our ethics

Small things make a big difference. What is the point of running a company that trashes the environment and doesn't look after other people? OK there is the money factor, but that's not enough! There's a few things that we feel are more important than money...
The environment
At Seasalt we are committed to reducing our adverse environmental impacts and we continually strive to improve our green credentials. This season 88% of Seasalt clothing is made from organic cotton, of which 61% is certified to Soil Association Standards – the highest organic standards in the industry. Seasalt is now the largest producer of Soil Association certified organic clothing in the UK and we continue to examine everything we do to make sure we’re doing the best we can for the environment. We’re not perfect but we follow our environmental policy to help improve things further. Click here to read it.
Choosing the right suppliers
Seasalt cares about the suppliers it uses, and whenever we can we visit the factories where Seasalt garments are produced. In 2008 and 2009 we visited each of our clothing suppliers to ensure our ethical trading standards are being met. As we grow, and the number of suppliers increases, keeping a handle on what's going on becomes even more important. Our purchasing policy reflects our commitment to maintaining these standards Click here to read it. We are also signed up to the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code, which summarises the labour standards that we expect our suppliers to work towards. To view these standards, click here.
Thinking about others
Seasalt is committed to being a socially responsible business. We recognise that our activities have a direct impact upon the well being of our employees, customers, suppliers and wider community in the places we run our shops. We use local suppliers whenever we can, and work with our local community on initiatives to protect our environment. You can see what we’ve been up to by reading page 6 of our ethics report. We also have a social responsibility policy. Click here to read it.
